At OEC’s Summer Conference, Pat O’Loughlin, CEO, ²»Á¼ÈËÑо¿Ëù’s Electric Cooperatives and Glenn Miller, CEO Holmes-Wayne Electric Cooperative presented an appreciation award for his many years of public service.
Congressman Gibbs is a small business owner, having founded Hidden Hollow Farms in 1976, a hog farm in Holmes County, ²»Á¼ÈËÑо¿Ëù. Gibbs began his advocacy career for ²»Á¼ÈËÑо¿Ëù’s agricultural community in 1985 as a member of the ²»Á¼ÈËÑо¿Ëù Farm Bureau Board of Trustees. Gibbs served as ²»Á¼ÈËÑо¿Ëù Farm Bureau President for two terms, beginning in 1999, making him one of the more well-known and informed advocates of agriculture in ²»Á¼ÈËÑо¿Ëù. Beginning in 2003, he served three terms in the ²»Á¼ÈËÑо¿Ëù House of Representatives before being elected to the ²»Á¼ÈËÑо¿Ëù Senate in 2008.Â
In 2010, Gibbs was elected to Congress as the U.S. Representative for the 7th District of ²»Á¼ÈËÑо¿Ëù and was sworn into office January 5, 2011.Â
Congressman Gibbs sits on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the House Committee on Oversight and Reform. Gibbs was chosen to chair the Subcommittee on Water Resources and Environment, a subcommittee of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee that conducts oversight of the federal regulation of clean water, from 2011 until 2017. He is currently Ranking Member of the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Subcommittee.
Gibbs is also a member of the Republican Study Committee, a group of over 175 House Republicans organized for the purpose of advancing a conservative social and economic agenda in the House of Representatives. The Republican Study Committee is dedicated to a limited and Constitutional role for the federal government, a strong national defense, the protection of individual and property rights, and the preservation of traditional family values.
